How Will I Measure My Life?

What matters the most?

At the end of the day, how do I know if it was successful?  When I die, what do I want to be remembered for?

How Will I Measure My Life

I recently finished a Business Bootcamp with some lovely ladies on my team.  Everything I asked them to do, I did myself.  One question really affected me.  Rather, the answer affected me.  It changed how I view everything I do and where I spend my time.

How Can a Life Be Measured?

The theme for this particular day was Finding Your WHY, so the questions revolved around what motivates us.  Frederick Nietzsche said, "He who has a why can endure any how."  It's critical to know why you're doing something if you want to be successful at it.  I had my team members write down the answers to a few questions including how will you measure your life?

He who has a WHY can endure any how

Sometimes I have a hard time answering questions about myself and my goals, but when I got to this question the answers flowed quickly and freely.  I didn't even have to think about them.

I will measure my life by the following:

  • By my obedience to God and fruits that honor Him.
  • By raising my boys to walk with Him.
  • By using my successes to glorify God and further His kingdom.
  • By the difference I make in the lives of everyone I meet.

I wrote those four statements down in my journal, and I've reviewed them several times since that evening.  The bar has been set.  And now - deep breath - I have my work cut out for me.
